I think that being offended by it is giving more power to a word than it deserves. Nicknames and pet names are ways we communicate love and friendship, the form they take is personal and I don’t think we have the right to be offended by them.

I agree with you but it gets tricky with very gendered things like “my lady”, “woman” and “girl” being used as terms of endearment by men in such a way because of not only how they’ve been used in a very negative and derogatory way in the past but also being they’re still used that way.

Like, if someone said to you “Hey girl, go do that thing for me” or whatever it would strike a chord. So while on the show it’s very obvious that Finn is using it in a very loving way that is a piece of their relationship as a whole, it still has this historical weight behind it.

If that makes sense? And hey, look! I’m putting my university education to use lol

*sigh* I’ve really lost you, haven’t I?

There’s no hope for me now.

It’s different from my BSBS “I WILL MARRY NICK CARTER” days though. Mostly I just like the music and fawn over how adorable the boys are. Especially Harry and Niall. I feel very maternal feelings for them. I want to read them stories, pat their heads, and tuck them into bed. THEY’RE SO CUTE!

Rules: In a text post, list ten books that have stayed with you in some way. Don’t take but a few minutes, and don’t think too hard — they don’t have to be the “right” or “great” works, just ones that have touched you. Tag ten friends. Make sure you let your friends know you’ve tagged them!

So I’m not going to list Harry Potter because that’s kind of obvious, so here are some of my favourite books either growing up or currently:

1. Little Women by Louisa May Alcott

I read this book when I was nine and I loved it so much growing up because it was the first time I really connected to characters in a way that I felt like they were similar to me. I still connect very much with Jo March.

2. Catcher in the Rye by J.D Salinger

I was an incredibly angsty teenage who just felt everything so much and I had been dealing with depression for the first time so it’s not really surprising to me (or anyone really) that I connected to Holden.

3. The Outsiders by S.E Hinton

What can I even say about this book? I never get tired of reading it. I read this book and I feel like I just know these boys. I have a special place in my heart for Johnny Cade.

4. Without You by Anthony Rapp

If you know me or follow me then you know RENT is like, my everything. I’m such a fan of Anthony’s and I just loved reading about his experience in RENT and how his life intersected with the show.

5. at last there is nothing left to say by Matthew Good

So Matt Good is an incredible song writer and so intelligent. I’ve always been a fan of his music (in the band and solo) and this book, which is a collection of stories and poems and thoughts - is weird and smart and interesting. Totally worth the read.

6. Hey Nostradamus! by Douglas Coupland

I’m a big fan of Coupland and I’ve read quite a few of his books but this is probably my favourite. His stuff is weird, really weird, but it comments on life and consumerism and religion and family and just …I think everyone should read at least one Coupland book in their life.

7. Killing Yourself to Live by Chuck Klosterman

I really enjoy Klosterman’s books and how he comments on music and pop culture. This one os great as he goes on a journey through the US to places where infamous musicians have died. He talks about them and his life and music and how they all intersect in his life and experiences. It’s really good.

8. Love is a Mix Tape by Rob Sheffield

Like Klosterman, Sheffield uses music to relate things to life and as a way to chronicle his own life. In this one he uses music from a series of mix tapes to document the phases of a relationship.

9. Wicked by Gregory Maguire

This is a really dense and rich book and such a contrast from the musical adaptation. I love the version of Elphaba (Wicked Witch) in this novel. It’s also very dark and political which makes it very interesting.

10. Maus by Art Spiegelman

This one is a two-part graphic novel in which Spiegelman intervies his father about his experience in concentration camps on Nazi Germany. The characters (Jews, Germans, Americans, French etc.) are all different animals and that, along with being a graphic novel, make it a really interesting and different way to tell this story. Definitely worth the read.

My darling friend Mandi tagged me so I’m going to answer these questions.

1. Favorite color?
Aubergine (dark purple)

2. If you could only read one book for the rest of your life what would it be?
This is the meanest question ever. Um …”The Outsiders” by S.E. Hinton. Or “Sex, Drugs, and Cocoa Puffs” by Chuck Klosterman or “Girlfriend in a Coma” by Douglas Coupland or The Complete Works of Edgar Allan Poe. I can’t pick just one.

3. You’re stranded on an Island and can have any 3 people with you who do you choose?
How …what!? I’m going to pick only famous people because I can’t decide between my best friends so …Darren Criss and Lea Michele because obviously and I don’t know …someone on National Geographic or Discovery Channel who can help us not die.

4. What is your music genre of choice?
Actually really depends on my mood but usually I can always listen to showtunes no matter my mood.

5. Last text message sent?
"Only time will tell."

6. All time favorite television show?
Ooo um probably a tie between Gilmore Girls, Supernatural, and Buffy the Vampire Slayer.

7. If you were a superhero what would your name and power be?
I don’t know about a name but I think my power would be teleportation.

8. Cats or dogs?
CATS FOREVER

9. Do you enjoy musical theatre? Favorite show?
Haha that’s a silly question. Favourite show is RENT.

10. Quick grab something closest to you! What is it?
My cell phone.

11. iPhone/Apple products in general yes or no?
Definitely. The next edition to my family will be an iPad but I don’t know when.

And now …if I have tagged you then you are encouraged to answer the questions below the cut. Then tag me and a bunch of other people and come up with your own eleven questions for them.

Ha yeah. That was fun. She made me call her as soon as I got off the train and could see you waiting for me. Probably to prove your realness or something.
